National Philanthropy Day

The mission of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Aloha Chapter, is to advance philanthropy through ethical fundraising and to further the education and development of professionals and volunteers in our community.  The sessions offered at our National Philanthropy Day (NPD) conference will help us meet that mission with a full complement of opportunities to further your fundraising knowledge. 

This year’s conference, with our theme "Energizing Our Communities", is scheduled for November 19th and 20th at the Sheraton Waikiki.  Register now for the conference and/or awards luncheon attendance!  Registration and payment due date have been extended to Wednesday, November 18, 2009, 12noon. 

Newcomers, seasoned professionals, consultants, board members, and volunteers will find this two-day conference filled with valuable training and sessions featuring outstanding local and mainland speakers.

We are holding the 2008 fees for the conference.  Conference fees, which include the plenary session and awards luncheon, will be $195 for AFP members and $330 for non-AFP members.  We are also offering a group rate of $275 per person when two (2) or more individuals from the same organization attend the conference.  Join AFP before you register for NPD and save up to $185 off the attendance fee!

During our two-day program, we will also be recognizing those who have provided extraordinary leadership and support to our nonprofit organizations at our annual NPD awards luncheon on Friday, November 20th.  Congratulations to this year's awardees!

We are proud to announce that Mr. Henk B. Rogers, President and CEO of Blue Planet Software will be our plenary session speaker on Friday, November 20th, just prior to the awards luncheon.  Henk Rogers is a visionary entrepreneur, entertainment genius, and philanthropist dedicated to social change.  The plenary session (and awards luncheon) is included in the two day conference fee.  Individual registration to attend the plenary session and lunch only is $80 for AFP members and $105 for non-members.

Our NPD Awards Luncheon will again feature our popular Volunteer In Philanthropy (VIP) program.  VIP's will be recognized in front of 500 civic-minded members of our community.  Each VIP will be presented with a certificate while our luncheon emcees describe their service and commitment.  A bio and photograph will also be shown on the ballroom’s big screen while each VIP is being recognized. 

Last year’s pricing is also being held for the NPD Awards Luncheon.  Tables of ten (10) are $750 and includes attendance at the plenary session and participation (optional) in our VIP program. 

In its 8th year, the 2009 Young Leaders in Philanthropy (YLP) Conference provides school juniors and seniors and community college/undergraduate university students the unique opportunity of learning the what, how, and joy of service by hearing from and interacting with exemplary community leaders in philanthropy, as well as fellow youth leaders.  The Youth Leaders conference will be on Friday, November 20, 2009, from 7:00am to 1:30pm at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.  See Related Links box above for more details.

We will also be holding our Annual Meeting of the Aloha Chapter on Thursday, November 19th from 12noon-1:00pm.  All are invited to participate in the Annual Meeting, which is over lunch and will include roundtable discussions on specific fundraising topics, an Aloha Chapter update, preview and first public presentation of the results of the 2009 State of Fundraising in Hawaii survey, announcement of results from voting by Aloha Chapter members on the slate for the 2010 Board of Directors, and prize giveaways!  Please indicate on your registration form if you plan to attend.

All conference attendees can take advantage of Kama'aina (Hawaii residents) rates at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel!  For $159 ($178.61 inclusive), attendees may stay in a city view room.  The Kama'aina rate also includes complimentary self-parking per day, 25% off food charges (when charged on room bill) and a 2pm early check in and 2pm late check out.  Call the Sheraton at 808-921-4611 and mention the NPD conference.
