Start-up nonprofit is looking for a high-energy, relational, collaborative Major Gifts Officer who will work with President/CEO and Governing Board to design and implement major gifts (over $10,0000) fundraising programs, planned giving, annual giving, capital campaigns, social media, donor cultivation outreach, direct mail, and special events.
Major Gift Officer Duties
Meet and exceed annual fundraising targets established with President/CEO and governing board:
Design, implement, and actively participate in relationship-based major gifts fundraising programs, planned giving, capital and project campaigns, social media donor cultivation outreach, diet mail campaigns, and signature event fundraising.
Create and update a brief strategic plan for all levels of donors and prospects, with more extensive plans for major-gifts donors.
Develop compelling cases for support by telling the story about the organization, as well as showcasing each of the organization’s fundable areas of programs and services.
Develop written engagement and solicitation strategies and write gift proposals in order to move prospective donors through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship cycle.
Engage in agreed upon qualified contacts per week with emphasis on major gift visits. This will include meetings, phone calls, and written communications (letters, emails).
Discuss personal interests that may correlate with Advocates for Africa’s Children programs with prospects, assessing desire and ability to be philanthropic, providing them with opportunities to give.
Maintain current and accurate records of all donors and prospects in well-organized donor database. Record movement of prospects through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship cycles, and current and future gift asks/proposals.
Communication Outreach; supporting donor outreach through managing effective donor communication, including social media, website, and printed publications outreach.
Integrity with credible Christian witness that exemplifies the Character of Christ in action and sound judgment.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Advanced degree is preferred.
10 years of practical experience in philanthropy/fundraising and/or sales.
5 years of successful Major Gift ($10,000 or above) fundraising, as well as experience in securing and stewarding five figure and above gifts or comparable business/sales background.
Proven success in all facets of direct and indirect donor solicitation, including success in making cold calls and developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
Previous experience in developing and launching major fundraising campaign desired.
Experience working with and making presentations to Boards of Directors, top management, and public groups.
Ability to understand the needs and interests of major gift donors in order to develop and strengthen relationships between Advocates for Africa’s Children and individual donors and programs.
Exceptional verbal and written communications skills, including ability to prepare reports, formal and informal correspondence.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities including the ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and high net-worth volunteers and donors.
Demonstrated record of accountability for goals, results-oriented, with ability to meet deadlines, complete assignments, and secure major gifts.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple ongoing projects, prioritize activities, and focus on details.
Documented success in personally implementing sophisticated, multi-year cultivation strategies that use relationship-building and moves management approach leading to successful gift closure.
Willingness to take risks and try new approaches.
Ability to travel as needed.Other duties as assigned.CFRE certified preferred.
